NYFW Trends to Know

Right now i’m picturing you as Jerry Maguire (which is a compliment because 1996 Tom Cruise is pretty cute) shouting passionately into your phones, “Show me the trends! SHOW ME THE TRENDS!”

So fine! No need to get loud. Ready? At New York Fashion Week, it was all about…

Buttons and stuff.

big-buttons-trend-man-repeller-nyfw_3456-636x636An elegant way to show skin in moderation and a fantastic fashion hack for clothes that’s now too tight because Winter went from a cheat day to a I-Don’t-Know-How-To-Stop!

Swimsuits as Outerwear.

Trust me. These are the new wardrobe staple. Wear with high waist trousers but more than okay to lay low on the hips too.

Im not a big fringe fan because it always gets hooked on things, which is awkward, but could also be a good way of meeting someone new. If it gets too awkward just start shimmying those fringes like you’re at a Fiesta!

Slitty Slits.

Got one slit already? That’s sexy. Now try two and let your legs loose! As seen at: Marc Jacobs, Edun, CG, Michael Kors, Altuzarra, Baja East, Cushnie et Ochs, Dion Lee, Marc Jacobs and Narciso Rodriguez.

Dresses That Cast a Wide Net.

A cool update on the summer dress. I also want to say, ‘edgy’.

Dangling Earrings.

earrings-man-repeller-nyfw-ss16-trends-636x424I never got into this trend the last time it was… a trend, but now i feel like im ready. Are you? Less embellishments make way for new textures and shapes. The more interesting your ear, the better.

Something to Slip Into for Day or Bed.

It doesn’t matter where you’re going so long as whatever you’re in plays the coy role of, “I just threw this on.” As seen at: Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, Creatures of the Wind, Givenchy, Maiyet, Narciso Rodriguez, Sally LaPointe, Tibi, Tome, Victoria Beckham and Wes Gordon.

Loose Ends.

By this i mean more dangly shit. And by shit i mean as seen at: Derek Lam, Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, Public School and Rosie Assoulin.

Dipping Low With Pride.

I touched on this with the swimwear. It’s rebellion against the 70s; the 2000s are officially back and you need abs if you wanna play with us. Any tips on how to get those?

Shoestring Laces. SHOESTRING LACES!

Get those strings out of your shoes and start getting creative. Tie it around your waist, your wrist like a bracelet, or string it through the holes of a button up shirt. I’ve seen this trend becoming more frequent lately and it makes my head spin because it’s all been done in the exact same way. I’m still very much into it, at least into the idea of making it your own. So the question that remains is, are you the type to corset-up?
